What Stands Out

  • Drawers and cabinet doors together, which is the layout that actually matches a garage
  • Cabinet sections take the awkward tall items drawers cannot
  • Stainless countertop, which takes solvents and heat in a way a painted top does not
  • Locking system across drawers and doors
  • 1000 lb capacity across the cabinet
  • Seven drawers is enough to sort tools by job rather than by what fits
  • Rolls, so it can serve a bench on one side and a vehicle on the other

What To Check

  • Five feet of cabinet needs a wall and a plan, not a spare corner
  • Cabinet doors need swing clearance that drawers do not
  • Loaded weight is substantial and the casters are working hard
  • Deep cabinet sections become a place things disappear into

What This Is

A 62-inch rolling tool chest that combines seven drawers with two cabinet-door sections, under a flat work top.

Why Mixed Storage Beats All Drawers

An all-drawer box is designed for a professional mechanic whose tools are all hand tools. A home garage holds hand tools and also a circular saw in its case, a shop vac hose, spray cans and a cordless charger. None of those fit a socket drawer. Cabinet sections handle them, which means they get put away instead of accumulating on the floor. For a garage rather than a workshop, this layout is simply more honest about what is being stored.

Use The Top

A five-foot flat surface at working height, on wheels, next to whatever you are doing, is close to the most useful thing in a garage. Keeping it clear is the discipline; a top covered in last weekend's project is a cabinet that has stopped helping.

Mind The Door Swing

Drawers need depth in front; doors need an arc. Two cabinet doors on a 62-inch chest want real clearance to open fully, and a chest parked beside a car or in a narrow aisle may only open one of them. Check that in the actual position you intend to use.

Organise The Deep Sections Early

Open cabinet space with no internal structure becomes a cave. Put a shelf, a bin or a couple of dividers in from the start, decide what belongs there, and it stays useful. Leave it empty and it will be full of things nobody can identify within a month.

The Short Version

The most practical layout in garage storage, because real garages hold both sockets and leaf blowers. Measure the door swing as well as the footprint.
