What Stands Out

  • Sixteen microns per click with 240 clicks of total range, which is finer control than most home electric grinders
  • External adjustment, so you change grind size without disassembling anything
  • Stainless steel burr set with a dual bearing design, which keeps the burrs aligned and the grind consistent
  • Aluminum body rather than plastic
  • Dismantles by hand for cleaning with no tools
  • 25 to 35 g hopper and no power needed, so it travels, camps and works in a power cut

What To Check

  • It is hand cranked: 25 g of fine grind is real effort, every morning
  • Small capacity means grinding in batches for more than two cups
  • Slower than any electric grinder
  • Precision this fine is wasted if you only ever make drip coffee

What This Is

A hand grinder with more adjustment precision than most electric grinders at twice the price, because the money goes into burrs and bearings instead of a motor.

Who Should Buy A Hand Grinder

Two groups. People who care enough about espresso or pour-over that 16 micron steps actually change their cup. And people who want coffee where there is no power: camping, a truck, a hotel room, a hunting cabin.

Who Should Not

Anyone making two mugs of drip coffee before work. Cranking this every morning gets old by week three, and the Cuisinart on the same shelf does that job in twenty seconds. There is no prize for grinding by hand if you cannot taste the difference.

Dual Bearings Are The Spec

Cheap hand grinders let the shaft wobble, so the gap between burrs changes as you turn. All the fine adjustment in the world means nothing then. Two bearings holding the shaft true is what makes the click precision real.

The Short Version

More grind precision than electric grinders twice the price, paid for with your arm every morning. Great for camping, tedious for daily drip.
