What Stands Out

  • Seven-layer construction with 2x2 inch compartments, which is the detail that keeps the weight evenly spread instead of pooling at your feet
  • More cooling glass beads and less fiberfill than older designs, which matters if you sleep warm
  • Three-dimensional lock-bead stitching at 0.25mm per stitch to stop beads migrating or leaking
  • Sixteen loops for securing a duvet cover, so you wash the cover rather than wrestling a 15 lb blanket into a machine
  • Machine washable on a gentle cycle

What To Check

  • 48 x 72 inches is a single-sleeper size. Sharing a weighted blanket requires the 80x87 or 88x104 size and a much heavier blanket
  • Fifteen pounds is genuinely heavy to make a bed with; the sizing rule is 10 percent of your body weight plus a pound
  • Glass-bead blankets sleep warmer than an open-knit design no matter how the marketing reads
  • Not appropriate for children without guidance, or for anyone who cannot easily move it off themselves

What This Is

The default weighted blanket. Glass beads sewn into small compartments so the weight distributes across your body rather than sliding into a pile.

Getting The Weight Right

YnM's own rule is 10 percent of your body weight plus one pound. At 145 pounds that lands on 15 pounds, which is also the most common size sold.

Two practical notes on that math. If you are between sizes, most makers suggest rounding up rather than down. And if you have never slept under one, the first two nights feel strange before they feel good.

The Compartment Detail Matters

A cheap weighted blanket has large compartments, and large compartments let beads migrate. You wake up with fifteen pounds over your shins and nothing on your chest. The 2x2 inch grid here is the specific thing you are paying for.

The Duvet Cover Is Not Optional

Washing a 15 lb blanket is a genuine chore and hard on a home machine. The 16 loops exist so a cover takes the sweat and the cover goes in the wash. Buy one with the blanket.

The Short Version

The benchmark weighted blanket. Get the weight right with the 10 percent rule, buy a duvet cover with it, and expect two odd nights before it works.
