Product Information, Not A Review

Specs, pricing and buying notes taken from the manufacturer so you can compare this against whatever else you are looking at. I have not had this one in my hands. When it goes through real use it gets rewritten as a full review, with a rating and my own photos.

What Stands Out

  • 2K resolution, which is the difference between seeing that someone was there and seeing who
  • Up to 6x enhanced zoom, so a package label or a face at the kerb is readable
  • Battery powered, so it fits houses with no doorbell wiring
  • Removable battery recharged over USB-C with an included removal tool, rather than taking the whole unit down
  • Live view and two-way talk in real time
  • Real-time motion notifications to a phone

What To Check

  • Recording history and most useful features need a Ring subscription
  • USB-C cable not included, which is a strange omission at this price
  • Battery doorbells need recharging every few months depending on traffic
  • Ring's history of police data-sharing partnerships is worth knowing about before buying into the ecosystem

What This Is

The default video doorbell, in its higher-resolution version.

2K Is The Upgrade That Matters

1080p doorbells show you a person-shaped figure. 2K with 6x zoom lets you read a delivery label or recognise a face at the end of a path. If you are buying a doorbell camera for evidence rather than for convenience, resolution is the spec to spend on.

Price In The Subscription

Without a plan you get live view and alerts but no recorded history, which is most of why people buy one. Treat the subscription as part of the price, not an upsell you can skip.

One Thing To Know Going In

Ring has a documented history of partnerships that share footage with police departments, and policies there have changed more than once. That is not a reason not to buy it, and it is something to decide about knowingly rather than discover later.

The Short Version

2K and 6x zoom is the difference between 'someone was here' and knowing who. The subscription is part of the price, not an option.
