NuPhy Halo96

The NuPhy Halo96 is a kick-ass mechanical keyboard. Not too loud, not too soft, a really tactile, nice-feeling board, and the look is its own thing: modern and clean with a little retro in it. I kept the color scheme it came with, because honestly they nailed it. This isn't your typical Razer or Corsair gamer slab; it feels like somebody sweated the quality instead of the logo.

Why This One

I had a specific shopping list: wired and wireless, and the big one, a Windows/Mac switch. My desk runs two machines: the full gaming PC across three monitors for day-to-day, gaming, and work, and a Mac mini I hot-swap over to for specific projects and app building. With this board it's literally a flip of a switch. No swapping keyboards, no re-pairing, no peeling keycaps to fix the modifier layout. One keyboard, both worlds, zero friction. That feature alone put it on the desk.

Built Heavy, On Purpose

Fair warning: this is a heavy keyboard. You are not throwing it in a bag. It would be a terrible travel board, and it's not trying to be one. This is for the true desk setup, the battle station, where its weight means it plants and stays planted. The flip-out feet have two height steps, which turned out to matter more than I expected with the standing desk. I can change the typing angle depending on whether I'm sitting or standing. Most of the time I run it flat, standing, and it's perfect there.

Mine's the original Halo96 in black: white and black caps, a school-bus-yellow spacebar, a red Enter key that means business, and a mint Esc. NuPhy has since replaced the original with the Halo96 V2, which is what the link goes to (Amazon carries it in Blue and Pink); same 96% idea, newer internals. Under my wrists: NuPhy's frosted acrylic wrist rest, sold separately on their site, and worth it for long days.

Battle Scars

One genuine annoyance: the rubber feet on the bottom pop off. I run the board on a big deskmat, and when I drag it around to reposition, the weak adhesive on those little feet gives up and one peels away. They stick right back on, a ten-second fix, but it keeps happening, and for a board this quality, the feet deserve better glue. That's the dock on the score, and the whole dock.

The Math

Same rule as everything on this site: quality matters, and paying a bit more for a keyboard you'll keep as long as you want to keep it beats re-buying mushy boards. The switches hot-swap, the caps come off for a proper clean, and the look stays interesting years in. The Halo96 is a perfect addition to any battle station.

Who Should Skip This

If your keyboard travels (coffee shops, laptop bags, office-and-home), this brick will punish you; get something light and low-profile. And if you'd never use the numpad, the 96% width is space you're donating. For a two-computer desk jockey with a standing desk and opinions about key feel: 4.8 out of five, and the missing points are entirely those sticky little feet.
