What Stands Out

  • 400 litres a minute, which is faster than most battery pumps and never runs out of charge
  • Under 85 dB, noticeably quieter than the shop-vac-sounding pumps in this class
  • One pound and about three inches square, so it stores anywhere
  • Inflates and deflates, including vacuum storage bags
  • Three universal nozzles covering most household inflatables
  • Plugs into any wall outlet with nothing to charge or remember

What To Check

  • Corded and 120V only: it is a house-and-garage pump, not a campsite pump
  • Do not run it more than 20 minutes at a stretch or it overheats
  • Cannot use both vents at once
  • Low pressure, so the same SUP and sports-ball limits apply

What This Is

The corded counterpart to a battery pump. If everything you inflate happens within reach of an outlet, this is faster, cheaper and never needs charging.

Corded Versus Cordless

Pick corded if the pool is in your backyard and the air mattress is in your guest room. Pick cordless if you camp, or if the pool is at a lake, or if hunting for an extension cord is the thing that stops you bothering.

Plenty of households should own this one and nothing else.

Respect The Duty Cycle

Twenty minutes maximum at a stretch. Small pumps in this class use the airflow itself for motor cooling, and running one continuously through a whole afternoon of floats is how they die. Work in batches and let it rest.

The Short Version

The right pump if everything you inflate is near an outlet. Faster than battery pumps, nothing to charge, and rest it every twenty minutes.
