What Stands Out

  • Up to 10 hours of heat from each warmer, per the listing
  • Air activated: open the pack, shake, and it warms up with no fuel or flame
  • 10 pairs, so there is enough for the whole family and the truck kit
  • Made in USA from domestic and imported materials, per the listing

What To Check

  • Single use, so they get thrown away after one session
  • Should not go directly against skin, which takes some attention with little kids
  • They warm hands and pockets, not a room

HotHands hand warmers are small pouches that heat up when you open the wrapper and let air hit them. They are Amazon's best seller in Camping Hand Warmers, and they are the same warmers a lot of families already buy for football games and deer stands.

They are built for cold hands when the heat is out or the truck will not start. No fuel, no flame, nothing to plug in, so they are one of the easiest kinds of warmth to hand out to kids in a cold house.

The Numbers That Matter

Up to 10 hours per warmer. One warmer can cover a long night or a full day in a cold truck or at a ballgame.

135 F average. That is warm enough to matter in a glove or a coat pocket and warm enough to need some care against skin.

20 warmers in the pack. Enough to split between the house bin, the truck and the gear bag.

Safe use. HotHands says not to apply warmers directly to skin. Put them in gloves, pockets or over a layer of clothing. Take extra care with anyone who cannot feel heat well or cannot pull a warmer away on their own, including young children, people with diabetes and older adults. Follow the warnings on the package, keep unopened packs dry, and keep them away from little kids who might open or chew them.

Who It Is For

The dad putting together a winter outage bin or a truck cold weather kit and wants heat that needs no planning. Pair them with Mart Cobra emergency Mylar blankets for the beds, an AstroAI snow brush and ice scraper and a NOCO Boost GB50 jump starter for the cold morning in the driveway.

The Short Version

Hand warmers are the simplest heat in the emergency bin, and they need no ventilation or fuel. Keep a stack in the house and a few in the truck, and use them in gloves and pockets, never straight against a kid's skin.
