What Stands Out

  • Made from pasteurized yak and cow milk with the lactose cured out, and nothing else
  • No binding agents, preservatives or additives, which is rare in long-lasting chews
  • Lasts far longer than a rawhide or a bully stick for most dogs
  • Mixed small and large pieces in the pack, so it works across different dogs or different occasions
  • The chewed-down nub microwaves into a puffed treat, so almost nothing is wasted
  • Digestible, unlike rawhide, which is the main reason to choose these

What To Check

  • Hard enough to pose the same tooth-fracture risk as any dense chew
  • The final nub is a choking hazard and has to be taken away
  • Rich: too much too fast upsets some dogs' stomachs
  • Costs noticeably more per chew than rawhide

What This Is

The long-lasting chew that is actually food rather than a processed hide product.

Why Not Rawhide

Rawhide swells when wet and is poorly digested, which is why swallowed pieces cause blockages. Hardened milk chews break down. That difference is the whole reason this category exists and it is worth the price difference.

Two Rules

Take the nub away. When it gets down to a piece small enough to swallow whole, it is a choking hazard and the chew is over. The common move is to microwave it for a minute, which puffs it into something crunchy and harmless.

And introduce it slowly. These are rich, and a dog that works through a whole large stick on day one will tell you about it later.

The Short Version

Digestible, unlike rawhide, which is the whole point. Take the nub away before it gets swallowable, and introduce it slowly.
