What This Is
A full-size air hockey table: a perforated surface, a blower underneath, and an electronic scoreboard at one end.
The Zero Instruction Game
Air hockey needs no explanation to anyone of any age. That makes it the table that gets used at a party while the more interesting machines sit idle. If the room is for hosting rather than for you alone, that counts for a great deal.
Keep The Holes Clear
This is the one maintenance task and it decides whether the table stays fun. Those thousands of small holes fill with dust, hair and crumbs, the airflow drops, and the puck starts dragging instead of floating. A table that plays slowly is a table nobody chooses. Vacuum the surface regularly and run a thin pick through blocked holes; it takes a few minutes and completely restores it.
Expect The Noise
The blower has to lift the puck, and it is audible for the whole game. In a basement or a garage that is irrelevant. Next to a room where someone is watching television it is not.
Assemble It Where It Will Live
Full-size tables are large, and the legs and surface go together into something that does not want to go round a corner. Build it in its final position. Check it is level afterwards, because a slope sends every puck the same way.
Spares
Pucks leave the table. Buy extra pucks and strikers at the same time as the table and keep them somewhere that is not the floor.
The Short Version
Two games on one footprint, and air hockey is the most immediately playable table in any game room. Keep the surface clean, because a clogged table plays slow and a slow table goes unused.
