What Stands Out

  • 200 meter water resistance with a screw lock crown and a screw lock caseback, per Casio
  • Stainless steel case with an anti-reverse bezel you can use to time a rest, a cook or a fishing session
  • Analog with a date window and a battery Casio rates at about 3 years, so there is nothing to charge
  • Casio lists accuracy at plus or minus 20 seconds per month

What To Check

  • At 44.2 mm wide and 92 g it wears big and heavy for its class, so smaller wrists should check the case size first
  • The crystal is mineral glass, not sapphire
  • The resin band is the part most likely to wear out first

The Casio MDV106, usually called the Duro, is the affordable analog dive-style watch built for the lake, the gym and the grill. It pairs a stainless steel case with a one-way bezel, a screw lock crown and a screw lock caseback, and it is one of Amazon's top sellers in Men's Wrist Watches.

What makes it worth a look is construction you usually pay more for. A screw down crown and caseback with a 200 meter rating means a day of wading, swimming with the kids or hosing off the boat is not something to worry about. The bezel only turns one way, so if it gets bumped it can only make a timed interval look longer, never shorter.

The Numbers That Matter

SpecWhat it decides
200 m, screw lock crown and backWhether water days are a non-issue
44.2 mm wide, 92 gWhether it fits your wrist and your cuff
About 3 year batteryHow rarely you think about it
Mineral glassHow it handles scrapes against rock and steel

The size. Casio lists the case at 48.5 x 44.2 x 12.1 mm and 92 g. That is a substantial watch. Big wrists will like it; smaller wrists should compare it against a watch they already wear.

The bezel. Casio lists an anti-reverse bezel. Line up the marker with the minute hand at the start of a rest, a smoke check or a drift, and the elapsed time reads right off the dial.

Who It Is For

The dad who wants one analog watch for fishing, yard work and the gym floor, with steel and a real dive-style build, and who would rather not charge anything. If you want timers and alarms instead of a bezel, the Casio AE1200WH and the Casio W800H cover that ground. For a proper dive computer, see the Suunto Ocean.

The Short Version

This is the dive-style beater for a dad who wants steel, a real screw down crown and a bezel he can actually use, without a watch he has to baby on the boat or at the gym. I would point anyone with a smaller wrist to check the 44.2 mm width before buying. If you want a lighter digital with timers instead, look at the Casio AE1200WH.
