What This Is
A tournament-style sisal dartboard inside a wooden cabinet with lights, chalkboards and dart storage. The cabinet closes, which is most of why these sell.
Sisal Versus Paper
This is the only board material question that matters. Sisal is compressed natural fiber: the hole closes behind the dart, so the board heals and lasts years. Cheap boards are coiled paper, which holds every hole it ever takes and turns the triple twenty into a crater inside a season. Sisal costs more and it is not close.
Light Is Not A Luxury Here
A dartboard in a dim basement is unplayable in a way people blame on themselves rather than the lighting. The board casts shadows into its own scoring beds, and you end up guessing at wires. Built-in LEDs fix that and are the single biggest upgrade to how the board actually plays.
Protect The Wall Anyway
The cabinet doors catch a lot, but steel tips that miss wide will find drywall. If the cabinet is going on a finished wall, put a backboard or a surround behind it from the start. It is cheap, and the alternative is a constellation of filled holes.
Rotate The Board
Every sisal board wears fastest where everyone aims. Lift it off and rotate the number ring every few weeks to spread the wear, and the board will last several times longer.
The Short Version
The cabinet is the reason to buy a set rather than a bare board. It lights the board, stores the darts, keeps score, and shuts to hide the whole thing.
