Straight up front: this is a recon, not a review. I have not lived with the Travel Pack yet. The full review lands once this bag has done some gym weeks and at least one airport with me. What follows is my read of the published specs, filtered through six years with its smaller sibling.
Because here is the thing. I own the NOMATIC 20L Backpack. Bought it in 2020 as my new dad pack, and it is still my daily hauler six years later with nothing broken, torn, or worn through. In that review I even warned people not to confuse the two bags. The Backpack is the daily that stretches to 24L. The Travel Pack is the bigger animal: a 20L base that expands to a full 30L, built from the start to be the carry-on.
The Spec Read
The materials list reads like my Backpack, and that is a compliment. Water-resistant tarpaulin at 75 percent polyester and 25 percent nylon, YKK zippers, 4.1 pounds. Those are the same bones that have taken six years of my abuse, so I trust this construction sight unseen more than I would from most brands.
The layout is where it separates. Clamshell opening so it packs flat like luggage. 22 internal pockets. A sleeve for a 16 inch laptop plus a tablet slot. It converts from backpack to briefcase carry, has a luggage handle pass-through, a hidden back panel pocket for valuables, magnetic water bottle pockets, a glasses case, and a retractable key leash. NOMATIC calls it TSA compliant at 18.5 by 12 inches, with depth running 6 to 9.5 inches depending on how far you expand it. There is also a 14L version that expands to 21L, but it drops you to a 15 inch laptop. Colors are Black, Navy, and Olive.
Who It Is For
The dad who flies. My Backpack is a daily bag that can fake a carry-on. This one is a carry-on first: the clamshell, the 30L expansion, and the briefcase mode all point at the guy doing work trips or family trips out of one bag, no checked luggage. If your bag mostly runs school drop-off and the gym, the regular Backpack is the better buy and it costs less.
The Honest Math
$349.99, lifetime warranty against defects, 30-day returns, free shipping. That is 20 bucks over my Backpack for 6 more liters of expansion and the full travel layout. Based on six years with this brand, I expect it to hold up. I will confirm that the honest way, with my own shoulders. Get it if your travel schedule cannot wait for my full review.

After Action Report
On paper this is the travel-first version of the bag I have carried daily for six years, with the same tarpaulin and YKK build I already trust from NOMATIC. Recon verdict: promising enough to sit on my shortlist, but the full review waits until it has ridden my shoulder through an actual airport.
