What I Like

  • Simple, readable ingredient list: magnesium chloride flakes, Dead Sea salt, vitamin C crystals, fractionated coconut oil, essential oils. No mystery blend.
  • Five scents including a true unscented option for guys who do not want to smell like a spa.
  • Subscription pricing takes up to 25 percent off if the soak becomes a habit.
  • A hot 20-minute soak is a legitimate downshift tool after hard training, whatever the magnesium does or does not do.

What I Don't

  • No elemental magnesium dose is published anywhere, and the evidence for absorbing meaningful magnesium through skin is thin.
  • At 1 to 2 cups per bath, a roughly 3-pound bag is only a handful of soaks.
  • At recon time some individual scent pages showed sold out while the main catalog showed all five in stock, so check availability before you order.

Quick flag before we go anywhere: this is a recon, not a review. I have not soaked in this stuff yet. What follows is my coach's read of what Coach Soak publishes about their own product, and the full review lands once I have lived with it.

One housekeeping note. If you knew this as the Muscle Recovery Bath Soak, same product, new name. It sells as the Magnesium Bath Soak now, and the old product page is gone.

The Label Read

The base is magnesium chloride flakes plus Dead Sea salt, backed by vitamin C crystals and fractionated coconut oil, then essential oils for the scent. Coach Soak says the Dead Sea salt is rich in 21 minerals, including sodium, calcium, and potassium. Five scents: Lavender, Eucalyptus and Tea Tree, Citrus, Peppermint, and Unscented. The bag runs about 3 pounds, and the directions call for 1 to 2 cups in a warm bath for 20 minutes. Do that math and a bag is a handful of soaks, not a season's worth. No elemental magnesium number is published anywhere on the site, and I am not going to invent one.

Now the coach honesty portion. The evidence that you absorb meaningful magnesium through your skin is thin. Not zero, but thin, and I am not going to tell you a bath fixed your magnesium status. If you want magnesium that moves the needle, my answer is still the oral stuff: Thorne Magnesium Bisglycinate. My drug-tested athletes and my health-basics lane stay on Thorne, and a nice-smelling bag of bath salt does not change that.

What a hot 20-minute soak definitely delivers is the downshift. Warm water, a locked door, no phone, a body that just finished training. That is real recovery, and dads get precious little of it.

Who It Is For

The dad who trains hard and needs a forcing function to actually slow down at night. The guy whose current recovery plan is collapsing on the couch. If you already take your magnesium by mouth and want the bath as a ritual, this is that. If you are buying it to treat something, that is a doctor conversation, not a bath aisle one.

The Honest Math

$25.95 a bag, with subscription pricing at $19.46 monthly, $20.76 bi-monthly, or $22.06 quarterly. At 1 to 2 cups a soak you will burn through a bag fast, so the subscription discount matters if this becomes a habit. One heads-up: at recon time a couple of the individual scent pages showed sold out while the main catalog showed all five available, so check the page before you count on it. If the ritual sounds like your speed, Get it and report back before I do.

Every Dad Carry is an approved Coach Soak affiliate through impact.com. Links on this page pay the site a commission at no extra cost to you. I did not receive this product free, and this recon was published ahead of hands-on testing.

After Action Report

Buy it as a downshift ritual, not a magnesium supplement. The hot water and the locked bathroom door are the real product. Keep your actual magnesium oral, and mine stays Thorne.
