5.11 RUSH24 2.0 Backpack

Let me be straight with you up front. This is a recon report, not a review. I do not own this pack yet. What follows is my read of the published specs, filtered through a lot of years living in this brand's gear. The full review lands once I have carried it long enough to earn an opinion.

Here is why I am writing about it anyway. I have been a 5.11 fan since I was a young Marine, 2008 to 2012, and I still train in their gear today. My TacTec Trainer weight vest has survived a little over five years of Murphs and gym days. So when their flagship pack goes on sale, I pay attention, and I figure you might too.

The Spec Read

The RUSH24 2.0 is a 37 liter pack built from 1050D nylon. That is the heavy stuff. For reference, my TacTec vest is 600D and it has shrugged off five years of abuse, so 1050D reads like a tank on paper. The fabric is water-repellent, and I want to be precise here: repellent, not waterproof. Rain, fine. Dropped in a lake, no.

You get full web MOLLE on the front and sides with a 3x3 loop panel, plus MOLLE on the shoulder yoke. Inside there is a padded sleeve that takes up to a 15 inch laptop and a 2-liter hydration compartment. Fleece-lined eyewear pocket, a hidden pocket, sternum strap, ventilation channels on the back panel. It is also RUSH Tier System compatible, so smaller RUSH packs and pouches attach directly. Empty weight is 3.85 pounds.

Who It Is For

On paper, this is the one-bag dad. Diaper duty on Saturday, laptop on Monday, day hike when you can steal one. The MOLLE means the pack grows with the job instead of getting replaced. If you want a slim, quiet commuter bag, this is not it. Nearly four pounds empty, and it looks exactly as tactical as it is.

The Honest Math

At recon time it is on sale for $99.49 against a regular price of $140.00. Two hedges. First, 5.11 sale pricing can vary by colorway, so check your color before you count on that number. Second, the Python Limited Edition colorway is already out of stock. The other colors were in stock when I looked.

Roughly forty bucks off a 1050D pack from a brand that has never let me down is easy math. But my verdict waits until I have lived with it. Get it now, or wait for the full review.
